The best opportunities also result from superior leadership. If the person running your team invests in your future, the path to success has countless forms. You'll know it's happening based on their interest in your goals.

Ideally you get a great manager and leadership team, it's hard to control at times. I know many people who work/worked at the same company and had separate ends of the spectrum experiences all based on who their manager was and the leadership team.

Interesting take.

The IC path is not so defined in most companies, at least not in Europe.

There are only a handful of positions for these roles.

So, objectively speaking, you are better off with a People Leader role.

And it's also more satisfying from an impact point of view.

Appreciate the perspective—I agree that most companies have ill-defined IC tracks (at least for senior roles). It's an opportunity for a builder-led company to pioneer.

Yes, I am not saying it's a good thing, quite the opposite.

Companies should have an IC track for people who are smart enough to make an impact but not willing to lead other people.
