The IC path is not so defined in most companies, at least not in Europe.
There are only a handful of positions for these roles.
So, objectively speaking, you are better off with a People Leader role.
And it's also more satisfying from an impact point of view.

Yes, I am not saying it's a good thing, quite the opposite.
Companies should have an IC track for people who are smart enough to make an impact but not willing to lead other people.
